Mydin was founded in 1918 by Mr Gulam Husen Jamal, father to Mr Mydin. 

As of Jan 2015, there are 16 Mydin Wholesale Emporiums in Malaysia and more than 250 outlets nationwide under the Mydin name and franchise. 

The original Mydin shop was opened in Penang, but was burnt down during the World War II. Strong determination, perseverance and faith made one of the founder's child, Mydin Mohamed continue the trades of wholesaling. He opened his first shop named Syarikat Mydin Mohamed in Kota Bharu, Kelantan in 1957, selling toys and general merchandise.
